Webster Groves Women’s Garden Association
Nature, Community, Friendship
Since 1926, our members’ love of nature and gardening has given rise to many long-lasting friendships and civic improvements in our wonderful community of Webster Groves, Missouri.
In 2022 our organization adopted a Mission Statement which reads as below:
“The Webster Groves Women’s Garden Association promotes the love of gardening through education, conservation, civic beautification and philanthropy in our community.”
The WGWGA is comprised of three individual clubs totaling around 60 members. Each club meets monthly for a business meeting followed by a horticulture program or field trip. Each spring and fall, the three clubs come together for our WGWGA meeting. We also collaborate on numerous larger community projects.
Our roots in the Webster Groves, Missouri community run deep. We partner with the city to maintain the newly renovated “sundial daylily garden” and “butterfly garden” in Ruhe Park (at the corner of Elm and Glendale Roads). Ruhe Park is also home to our well-maintained Blue Star Memorial honoring the men and women of the military. Our Horticultural Educational Outreach Program has provided over $25,000 to both public and private schools in the Webster school district. The funding source for these educational grants is our annual spring plant sale– our opportunity to share our plants and knowledge with the community.
Monthly, from May through September, we scour the streets of Webster Groves, looking for fabulous gardens awaiting our special recognition: “Garden of the Month”. This honor requires careful consideration and is always a difficult decision!
Our membership represents a great diversity of gardening interests and levels of expertise. We come from every Webster neighborhood, professional background and age group. We all join a club to share our common interests and learn from each other; we stay because of lasting friendships.
We invite you to join us—you’ll be glad you did!
